This is the main area of the courtyard. The ceiling here is made of glass so if you look up you can see the stars on a clear night.
Another part of the wing has the apartments of Napoleon III. I thought it was a weird contrast to see all the wooden panels here versus the stone from the courtyards and almost everywhere else in the wing. In case you were wondering, that's why I seem a little perplexed here...
This is from the Medieval Art section. Everything seemed to be from a church or monastery because all the art represented biblical subjects or priests or even knights from the crusades.
Oh, and I have to be honest, I thought the king and queen sculptures looked funny so as I mocked them in my own little way, Monica took a picture (ha ha).
Here's another picture from Napoleon III's apartments. We found this beautiful crystal vanity there along with these extravagant vases and other objets d'art.
Here's a set of sculptures in the courtyard which represent prisoners of war from different countries. I love it because if you look at it up close, you can see the anguish in the statues' eyes. It's amazing that someone can represent such passion from stone and metal.
After we finished touring the Louvre, we walked over towards Opéra, to where the famous Opéra Garnier is. We didn't go inside since it was closed, but we walked around the square a bit to admire the Christmas lights. They have lights up almost everywhere now, and especially on all the stores of course. I guess they can start decorating early since there's no Thanksgiving here.
Bisous XOXO
